Facility and Building Infrastructure Management

The infrastructure of the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga on Campus A Unair, Jl. Prof Moestopo 47 Surabaya occupies an area of 52,213 m2 based on certificate no. B 8704885 Agrarian Office Surabaya and building area of 46,683.93 m2. The land and buildings are self-owned. The entire facilities/furnishings/equipment inside the buildings is also self-owned (belonging to the institution). Whereas the infrastructures (land and buildings) located on the education hospital network belong to other parties such as, Dokter Soetomo General Hospital (belongs to the East Java Regional Government), along with the Universitas Airlangga Educational Hospital – Campus C and the Universitas Airlangga Tropical Infection Hospital – Campus C (belonging to Universitas Airlangga).

The entire facilities, infrastructures, furnishings and educational activity equipment, administrative and managerial activities are self-owned. Whereas, the entire furnishings and academic activity equipment are also self-owned and supported by the infrastructures and facilities in the educational hospital network belong to another party namely Dokter Soetomo General Hospital. The academic facilities belonging to the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga have met the medical education standards (Indonesia Medical Council, 2006: Medical Profession Education Standard) both in terms of the adequacy, quality, and suitability. The infrastructures and facilities of the Academic rooms consisting lecture /discussion/tutorial rooms, educational laboratory-research laboratory, reading room, lecturers’ rooms, of the Faculty of Medicine have met the medical education standards with the total facility area of 33.139m2, with details of the spacious lecture hall/tutorial/discussion rooms (6,629,45 m2 + 1571,30 m2) since the discussion/meeting rooms can be altered as a lecture hall that is, as wide as (1571,30m2), the width of the educational laboratory-research laboratory (5,483,33m2), the width of the reading room (722,89m2),  and the width of the lecturers’ room (2.970,12m2). The width of the lecture/discussion/tutorial rooms are 8,200.75 m2 for 1345 S1 medical students, with a ration of 6.1 m2/student. 

The width of the lecturers’ rooms is 2,970,12m2 for 298 permanent department lecturers having an office in the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, meaning that 9.97m2/lecturer. This figure has exceeded the standard, namely, 3.23m2/lecturer (Indonesia Medical Council 2006: Medical Profession Education Standard). The infrastructures and facilities of the lecturers’ rooms of the Faculty of Medicine have met the medical education standards, the lecturers’ rooms are supported by supporting facilities (computers, internet access, air-conditioners, bookcases, bookshelves, tables, and chairs).

 

Reading Room Management

The Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga is equipped with Campus A Library facilities, Department Reading Room, and digital collection access via internet/internet websites and JEMARI Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga in the faculty neighborhood. The width of the Pre-Clinic & Clinic Department Reading Room is 777.72m2. The reading room is the supporter of Campus A Universitas Airlangga Library. Campus A Library with a width of 4046 m2 is the Service Center of the Discipline of Science (Pusyandi)  Medicine & Health at the national level appointed by the Directorate of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture in which the collections are in the field of medical science and health. So the total area of the library of medical education supporter becomes 4823,72m2, so the ratio of the library of medical education supporter in the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga compared to the number of students is 3.6 m2/ undergraduate medical students.

The existence of Airlangga Library especially Campus A Library, strongly supports the medical education system of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga by having the types and numbers of book collections which are very relevant and supporting the learning process. The device and library equipment are furnished with: lamps, air-conditions, bookshelves, tables, chairs, computers, trolleys, bookcases and file racks. There 320 seats and approximately 300 portable chairs available, a total of 23,896 copies with 13919 book titles, equipped with audio-visual facilities with 10 seat capacity, and 2 group study rooms. Lighting, ventilation, and temperature are arranged in such that the visitors are comfortable. In addition to manual catalogs, the library is equipped with digital catalogs which can be assessed in the entire terminals of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga related to the hardcopy and digital collections of UNAIR and the international journal providers.

In Campus A Library there is a computer laboratory with a capacity of 54 internet-connected PC units that can be utilized by the academic community of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Arlangga (training, online tests, lecture course, computer-based workshops). Operating hours are 69 hours/week and WIFI area service is 133 hours/week. Campus A Library is furnished with 20 PCs (consisting 3 PC units for journal access PCs, 3 PC units for research access, 4 PC units for portal access). The presence of WiFi area is also supported by the presence of JEMARI WiFi 24 hours x 7 days from 5 hotspot points for undergraduate – diploma students and the entire other hotspot access are for the lecturers, post-graduate students, Specialist Doctor Education Program students (PPDS), graduate students and employees as well.

Apart from being the Chair of the Forum for the Cooperation of State University Library (FKP2TN), Airlangga Library also works together with other university library systems through resource sharing and cross-service system such as:

– Dikti Portal (http://garuda.dikti.co.id)
– Bilateral cooperation with Perpun Perpun Malaysia
– Pusyandi (Service Center for the Discipline of Science) Medicine and Health in Eastern Indonesia

– Member of the committee and cooperation among the Medical University Library in the information resource sharing primarily the source of e-journal literature.
