RESEARCH INFORMATION

According to the Circular Letter of the Directorate General of Higher Education No. 152/E/T/2012 on Compulsory Scientific Publication for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees, the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga is obliged to facilitate the students of Medical Education Program to be able to fulfill the requirements. To achieve this, the students have to refer to the 2005 medical education curriculum stating that research modules 1 and 2 are respectively set for the writing of proposals and scientific papers.

Research Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

A. SOP Pre-requisites for the theme/topic/ Research Title

  1. The Quality Assurance Center facilitated by the vice dean 1, invites the Coordinators of Research and Community Service / Outreach (KPPM) (Research Coordinator) requesting the list of topics and names of the 4th-semester medical education program student advisors
  2. The Coordinators of Research and Community Service / Outreach respectively discuss the topic list of the department together with the Head of Departments and staff
  3. The Research Coordinator (KPPM) sends the theme/topic lists acknowledged by the Head of the Department to the Quality Assurance Team
  4. The Quality Assurance Center compiles the themes/topics of the entire departments and prepares them to be selected by the students
  5. The students fill out the online forms to obtain appropriate topics
  6. The Quality Assurance Center determines the topic and advisor according to the student’s, choice, the topic capacity and the proposed advisor’s name from the department.

B. SOP Proposal Advisor

  1. The Quality Assurance Center writes to the vice dean1, enclosing the lists of students, topics/titles, and names of Advisor 1 and 2 requesting for covering letters sent to the relevant departments, and the copies sent to the students.
  2. The students receive guidance logbooks from the Quality Assurance Center
  3. The students meet Advisor 1 and 2.
  4. The guidance on the proposal runs according to the schedule set by the Quality Assurance Center.
  5. The guidance is scheduled face to face at least 4 times with the respective advisor.
  6. The advisor signs on the student’s logbook after the guidance is completed.

C. SOP Assessment of Proposal

  1. After completing the proposal guidance, the students request that advisor 1 and 2 sign the endorsement sheet.
  2. The students submit the binding proposals to the respective advisor.
  3. The students submit the binding proposals signed by the advisors to the Quality Assurance Center.
  4. The Quality Assurance Center sends the online assessment forms to advisor 1 and 2.
  5. The advisors evaluate the proposals and fill out the online assessment forms.
  6. The Quality Assurance Center recapitulates the grades of the entire students.
  7. The Quality Assurance Center uploads the grades on the cyber system.

D. SOP Starting the Research

  1. Students fill out the application for research permit form manually according to the objective and location of the research (including the ethics committee and the Agency for National Unity and Politics (Bakesbangpol) and submit it to the Quality Assurance Center.
  2. The Quality Assurance Center writes to the vice dean 1 requesting him/her to ask for permission to the head of the students’ research location.
  3. The vice dean 1 sends a letter to the head of the research location, and enclosured to the researcher, advisors, students and the Quality Assurance Center.
  4. The vice dean 1 receives the reply, sent it to the concerned students, advisors and the Quality Assurance Center.
  5. The research begins.

E. SOP Scientific Writing Assessment

  1. The students and advisors propose the time of the plenary session and names of the examiners to the Quality Assurance Center.
  2. The Quality Assurance Center writes to the Vice Dean 1 to provide a letter of assignment and invite the examiners at the place and time as agreed.
  3. The scheduling of the examination takes place at least one week prior to the planned exam.
